He told that story because he likes to think he can tell stories. Seriously.
I grew up in the south, listening to my elders tell wonderful stories about childhood and college and hunting and idiot husbands and military careers, and more, and the stories always had a great mix of humor, wisdom, self-deprecation, and shaggy dog, and the stories were always excellent, and the storytellers always had us enthralled.We loved our storytellers.
