With all of the Hollywood movie stars, TV celebrities, multi-millionaire pro sports players and Silicon Valley execs in California, how did the state end up NOT collecting enough taxes? Could it be that out-of-control, unmonitored spending may have played a role?
I know this is a cartoon, but . . . . whatever happened to the concept of disciplining a child? Guiding them? Teaching them right from wrong? I’m old; my son is in his late 40’s. So maybe I’m out of touch with “modern” parenting.
The actual quote was “Peace for our time” (a declaration made by British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain). As he discovered, appeasement does not work when confronting a bully. Human nature works against peace.
“War is failure of diplomacy” (John Dingell) is a more accurate assessment.
In one case it’s what happens when one side knows they cannot justify their objectives through negotiations. In another case, it’s when they feel pressured by events to the point of desperation – and see no outside help being available.
In either case, they strike. In the first case, it’s “might makes right.” Take what you want, because you can.
In the second, it’s like when a bee stings you — they know they’ll die, but they go down swinging … and take as many of their oppressors with them as they can.
