    Fair enough, but the folk song I mentioned, known in many countries under various names — including “The Farmer’s Curst Wife” and “The Devil and the Ploughman” — dates back at least to a British version (titled “How the Divell was guld by a scould”) printed in 1630.

    So “Take my wife, please!” is hardly a new “joke”.
