Hello OrthodoxCatholic,I understand the religious and personal convictions causing you to look at the cartoon in the light for which you’ve commented. However, there is a great deal of evidence supporting that all of the instruments and devices in the ‘welcome room’ were popular with Tomás de Torquemada’s Spanish Inquisition in his efforts to ‘convert’ Jews, Muslims, and “heretic protestants”. A Jesuit priest and confessor to Queen Isabella, his sadistic form of Catholicism added greatly to the divisions between Christian protestants, Muslims, and Jews. It is not hard to see how so many people can look at such histories and wonder what kind of God allows such things. It is even easier when such people read the present day words which have no place coming from a ‘Christian’ as told in the Beatitudes. You look at the picture and see a modern day abortion clinic. I look at the picture and I see what people in power have done to those with no power in the name of a loving God whose son told us “bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.” With your very nickname, you represent millions of Catholics. I have concerns your words do not present the positive message Christ gave to his church, and in failing, hardens hearts and creates a greater intolerance to believers of all faiths. I would like to thank the many atheists and agnostics who have resisted attacking my own comments on this topic over the last weeks. It shows an example of patient humanity, if not ‘charity’.Respectfully,C.
