There is a Horrible Plank in the Party Platform that says we will Stop Abortions. They pretty it up with words like “Sanctity of Life” or protecting Women but it really comes down to a bunch of Religious Doofuses that want to oppress women because their god (intentional small g) told them it was the right thing to do.
When they couldn’t get the courts to accept their god given right to stick their noses into every woman’s business they decided to create impediments instead. Like forcing women to have invasive ultrasounds before they are allowed to terminate a pregnancy (regardless of the need or reason).
If the Republican party doesn’t get with the times they will find that they can’t get a President elected.
I remember a line from the West Wing – “You Republicans want to shrink the government down so it is just small enough to fit inside people’s bedrooms.” There is a lot to be said for that.
The Republican party needs to return to it’s roots and run on:Integrity, Freedom, Personal Responsibility, and Fiscal Responsibility. Only then will they be attractive to: Women, Minorities, Millenials, and Average Americans. If they don’t they should be content with a majority in the house most of the time and a weak majority in the Senate some of the time.
