   A friend of mine, when he was a preteen, flushed his mom’s stash of cocaine that she had bought for a party that she was planning to host that evening.

   (his parents were divorced – the mom was a former ‘trophy wife’ that wasn’t take her change in circumstances well (or maybe that was part of why they got divorced in the first place))

   My wife is an ELA teacher. She worked at an inner city school after COVID. Her students were engaged & learning. The neighboring classrooms sounded like a zoo, as the teachers couldn’t control the class. Her student’s scores on the yearly assessment test went up almost 100% (it’s a charter school, so they have to have early assessments) .

   Her co-teachers weren’t bad, but they weren’t great either, and those students needed great teachers, if they were to overcome the lack of support from the parents & the peer culture created during COVID.

   The relationship between Charles Dodgson and Alice appears sketchy because the full story was not known until recently. Dodgson, like most of his contemporaries kept a journal and was an avid letter writer. But after he died, Dodgson’s sister (the executor of his estate) threw out a large selection of his letters, and excised numerous pages from his journals.

   It wasn’t until the late 20th century that the truth came out – a woman going through her great-aunts estate found a stash of romantic letter from Charles to her

   It turns out this great aunt had worked as Alice Liddel’s governess (back then, a position typically only open to unmarried women) and she had been romantically involved with Dodgson. So Charles was spending a lot of hanging out wit Alice because he was dating her caretaker.

   But his family were deeply religious, and after he died, they deleted all references to this scandalous affair so as to keep from ruining the family reputation.
