Who got”the last word” in a was a big issue in my house growing up. Trying to get even a single word in after my mom had just laid down the law was seen as immensely disrespectful. It didn’t even have to be overt back-talk. Just any indication that she didn’t have the power to silence me completely with her authority was enough to spin the parental rage machine right back up. It was better to just shut up and let her finish unless I wanted to be there all night.
