When I try to explain privilege to someone they often respond “so I’m supposed to feel guilty about what people did before I was even born??”… It is like the whole issue went right over their head.
I respond that I don’t feel guilty, but I acknowledge that I was born with privilege. I make a point of understanding what that means, and how that impacts my life and the lives of others, and what I should do about it.
