Usually my wife just screams. I keep trying to tell her the spiders are good for us in that they eat the mosquitos and such, but she insists that I kill them.

Did I miss something (I don’t read Andy Capp)? Doc, are you getting married?

My rule of thumb: Outside - it’s their home and I leave them alone unless they try to bite me (i.e. mosquitos). However, once they invate MY home - they’re doomed!!!!

They don’t pay rent, so if they are in my house, they die.

Wait, isn’t Aragog a more modern reference that they could have slipped in here? I guess it’s showing that I never finished reading the LOTR when I was in high school…

Oh boy! A whole week of spiders! I can feel my phobia starting to activate.

(Actually, while spiders creep me out a bit, I do try to catch them in a jar and move them outside. But please don’t crawl on me! (shudder)

    Is it a ‘daddy-longleggs’ or a ‘brown-recluse’ spider?

Do not confuse the two… one is harmless and the other is deadly!

I consider the spiders that live in my… I mean our house as free-range pets. Although, seeing as how they eat mosquitoes, maybe that makes them more like farm animals.

I do clean off old dusty cobwebs, of course.

camelsamba, it’s not just “current” references that count, it’s “familiar” ones. I think more younger people are going to recognize the spider from “Lord of the Rings” than older people would recognize one from Harry Potter. If it were Clayton speaking the line rather than Adam, perhaps “Aragog” would have been in character…

^Well, we’ve got a whole week of spiders, so I’m expecting references to Aragog as well as Charlotte and Spiderman.

    Doc, a hearty congratulations!

Maybe Spider Murphy will show up and blow some tenor saxophone? I wanna hear that rocked-out jailbird swing!

(Spider Stacy on a tin-whistle would be even cooler, but even more obscure…)
