Adam: Laura, that crow is out there again. Laura: Just leave him alone and he won't bother you. Adam: He's mocking me. Laura: That's just a territorial thing. Maybe he just wants to make friends. Adam: Not with that look in his eyes, he doesn't. Laura: Just ignore him. Adam: He's staring into my soul! Laura: Crows don't have x-ray vision. Adam: What if this one does?! Laura: Why in the world would a crow with x-ray vision look at you? Adam: He's probably an excellent judge of character, too! Crow: Caw!

So there I was, waiting for the bus. No music, and no reading materials, so I was just looking at the world. There were these two pigeons by the curb. One was taking bits of seeds and throwing them out onto the street and the other one was eating them. I thought “that bird is stupid! Throwing his food away, and letting the other bird eat it!” A few minutes of watching this go on, the bird eating the food was well into the road when “BAM!” a car hit him! The food tossing bird wasn’t stupid! He was a cold blooded killer. He lured that other poor bird onto the road. I was shocked. The worst thing of all, he was staring at me. He didn’t move. He just stared. At. Me. With that unblinking eye. He knows I saw it. He knows you can’t have lose ends in a murder. I felt VERY uneasy the rest of my wait. By the time the bus arrived, the pigeon had moved off out of site. BUT I KNEW he was watching my every move. I know he followed me home. Now he knows where I live… I’m scared.

We get crows by the hundreds here. Smart birds but in general they can’t be bothered with us. They’re usually more preoccupied with the family of red-tailed hawks that patrol our home. Nice artwork on the crows, by the way.

Better be cautious, that might be Randell Flagg’s crow of ill-tidings.

Fun fact about birds: they do not have binocular vision. If a bird is facing you, it is not looking in your direction.
