I use to take my Red Heeler Annie to the 4th of July fireworks display with no issues. She was born stone-deaf, so it was nothing but a quiet light show to her.

I only wish some of my good “Christian” neighbors would think about how much they’re disrupting people’s lives and terrifying their animals while they break the law with their fireworks.

My favorite dog when I was young didn’t start out being afraid of loud noises, and then he was. New Years Eve, 4th of July, or thunderstorms would have the poor thing shivering. I suspect he had firecrackers thrown at him or something. Other than that, he was absolutely fearless, willing to even take on dogs much bigger than him.

My tabby is okay with thunder storms, but the neighbors shooting off fire works terrifies her! We normally put the stereo on to try and block out the sound the best we can.

Saturday night we set off a few early fireworks. One of the family pets apparently didn’t appreciate the noise and bolted from the cabin property. Fortunately, she returned around midnight and was knocking at the door to let her back inside…

That’s how my dad got his last dog. Someone from Massachusetts was in NH for the 4th and during the fireworks their dog ran off. They went home and left the dog. A couple of times we saw her on the porch as we drove up, but she would run off. Then one day my son came downstairs saying that there was “something BIG under the bed!” It was the dog, having gotten in and couldn’t get out. Dad had her the rest of his life…
