Did they buy a 50 pound bird? Who has that much leftover turkey after post-Thanksgiving snacking, and the turkey salad, and turkey soup, and turkey-and-rice, and Buffalo-turkey pizza, and turkey hash, turkey wraps, etc.?
We don’t have a lot of leftovers from Thanksgiving, just enough for a couple of small meals. For Christmas, we’re going to do something non-traditional like asado or pork ribs, or perhaps a pot roast.
I remember a Thanksgiving themed episode of Iron Chef America some years ago in which someone (Bobby Flay perhaps?) actually tried making a turkey ice cream. It wasn’t well received.

Shades of Iron Chef when Alton or the commentators would go, “Uh oh, they’re going to the ice cream machine of doom!”

Actually, that might go over pretty well, if you could sandwich it between some toasted stuffing cookies with some cranberry bits.

You know there saner ways fix the leftovers, you don’t have to go to extremes. But then we wouldn’t have the joke.

There is an actual brand of ice cream named Turkey Hill. The first time I heard the name I had pretty much the same reaction as the kid.
