When I started working at a large science lab many years ago, the management consisted of the best scientists who really were “leaders.” Now management seems to consist of lesser scientists charged mainly with budget and training, but who have the authority/responsibility to determine future directions. These managers are often risk averse, which leaves us unprepared for the future. Truly the revenge of the C student.
