One April first, in the ’70’s, at the restaurant I worked night shift. All of us on that shift gathered at the nearby doughnut shop, 1/2 hour before we were to come into work.We then took turns at the pay phone, calling the manager, with assorted reasons we could not come into work.Timing was of the essence, to prevent his having a heart attack….so after each call, that person would immediately go to the backdoor of the restaurant,so by the time the last call was made, we could walk in and yell APRIL FOOL’S !
