When I was a kid, back in the ‘60s, I had a book about space. They predicted in the book that by 1980, there would be colonies on the moon. A lot of predictions may sound plausible at the time, but then don’t come to pass.
My local paper just announced it was moving from a six day home delivery to a 3 day postal delivery. I’m way more upset about that than a self checkout at the store.
It won’t be too long before every item in the store has a tag. You’ll just push your cart past the sensor and it will tally it up and present you with your total.
The buggy and whip people are all up in arms about those new fangled “auto” “mobiles” ruining their business. There will still be cashiers in 20 years, but; 1) one cashier will be in charge of multiple machines, and 2) new and different jobs will be available. You can still buy a brand-new buggy or whip, most people choose cars, around here I pass buggies every day.
Local newspapers are mostly gone, and the few remaining don’t have the staff or money to do investigations, and that is really screwing up politics — and it’s not just at the local level. If George Santos had run for Congress a few years ago the local newspapers would have investigated and exposed him as a phoney before the election and he would never have been elected. It would only have taken a few minutes for a reporter to discover his claims of education and work history were all lies, but these days the remaining local newspapers can’t afford to have a reporter spend a few minutes on the phone.
20 years ago, weekday papers came out six days a week, had four sections, full color comics, all for a dollar. Now you are lucky to get two sections, and the comics are once again in black and white.

The AI will be in control and the media fit onto to the AI standards. So goodbye journaists, opinion writers, community writers.
