This storyline is straight out of Lousa May Alcott’s famous book, Little Women. But who cares? It was good then and it’s good now.

However, we should bear in mind that individual acts of charity, no matter how well intentioned, do not address the underlying causes that push people into poverty. We can only deal with those by concerted action as a society.

But when we do those individual acts thoughtfully, we can become the kinds of people who have the conviction, ideas, and willingness to act as a society.

    — ref: new eyeglasses… wow ! - I didn’t quite understand and looked again to discover two children peeking out the door… so after I had agreed with you that the charity and the example set were “tippy-top super-duper”, it got even better with the addition of the kids. — thank you (!)
