Larry owns a hardware store. One day, he’s working behind the counter when he hears a Voice booming out from nowhere: ”Larry, sell your business!”
Larry looks around, but doesn’t see anybody so thinks no more of it. The next day, he’s back at work again, and the Voice returns: ”LARRY! I said SELL YOUR BUSINESS!”, and the ground shakes and lightning flashes across the sky outside.
Larry is no fool, so he sells his business for a million dollars. The Voice comes back and says: ”Larry! Go to Las Vegas!” Larry hops the next bus to Vegas. ”Larry! Go to the Luxor’s blackjack table!” Larry goes to the Luxor, and heads for the blackjack table. The dealer gives Larry his cards, a King down and a seven showing: 17. The dealer’s got 16. ”Larry! Bet the million!” Larry figures the Voice knows what it’s doing, so he bets the million dollars.
The dealer gives Larry a card, and it’s an ace. Eighteen. Larry’s counting his winnings in his mind, but he hears the Voice again:
”Larry! Take another card!”
“Um… Are you sure…?”
”Take another card!”
Larry tells the dealer to give him another card. It’s another ACE! Nineteen! Larry lets out a sigh of relief. But sure enough:
”Larry! Take another card!”
“You gotta be kidding me! I’ve got 19 already, so why be stupid?”
”TAKE ANOTHER CARD!!!” and the ground shakes and the lights flicker.
By now a crowd has gathered, all conversation stops as Larry tells the dealer to give him another card. A third straight ACE! Twenty! There’s NO WAY he can lose now! But once again:
”Larry! Take another card!”
Larry’s hands are shaking and sweat is rolling off his face as he tells the dealer to give him one more card. And it’s… the FINAL ACE! Twenty-one! A cheer goes up from the crowd and Larry is on the verge of collapsing when the Voice booms out:
