A little self-delusion is helpful in the world these two inhabit….

I think Grandma is amused by Agnes, and glad, as long as she doesn’t go too far, that she can escape some of the hard realities.

But Trout’s Mom is probably right in the long run.

From what we’ve read of her lifestyle, she takes life as it comes, and has raised a pretty pragmatic daughter.

On another note — lovely coloring today!

Probably cos it’s Tony’s day to wield his own crayons.

The problem is that our delusions are often the only areas in which we allow ourselves to feel good about ourselves. Conversely, pragmantic, “realistic” self-assessments tend to focus on our shortcomings. How often do we refer to disabusing someone of their self-delusions as “bursting their balloon” or “raining on their parade”? What’s wrong with the occasional parade, with festive balloons?

Keep dreaming the impossible dream, Agnes.“We are all of us in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.”“Man’s reach should exceed his grasp, or what’s a heaven for?”
