Agnes, neither 2 nor 8 has sharp edges.

2 × 2 = 4, so if you divide 28 by 2 and then by 2 again, you get the right answer without handling any pointy 1’s, 4’s or 7’s.

One is the loneliest number you will ever know.

I have dyscalcula, and I know EXACTLY how Agnes feels! Love the line about having knicked her frontal lobe.

I don’t know why the teacher keeps sending Agnes to the principal, I would think, he/she, would look forward to Agnes’ answers/ideas.

OH! I was reading it as dividing 4 BY 28 – I thought that was pretty advanced for Agnes’ age group. I need to read more slowly…

    That’s fantastic reasoning, if I ever heard any . . .

Well, OK…. I was thinking of a sort of soft, loopy 2, and if you divide by 2 and then 2 again, you don’t need a 4…..

So maybe when she gets the 7 she could just drop it on the teacher’s desk without touching it….?

    8. 8 is nice and round. I thought about 6, but there’s that opening in the top. Let’s in all the air. .My first name has 8 letters. So, yeah, nice round number. I think we can forget the math for today.
