Oddly, I remember a Great-Grandmother having a lamp quite similar to the one next to Aggie’s bed. The shade was red and Fez-like.
It’s hard (impossible!) to imagine Grandma ever being cute and cuddly, so Agnes’ “was he the only one interested?” question makes perfect sense.
Go easy, Agnes. Nobody is born old. You get that way after a long trial period. Granny might be deservedly touchy.
There might have been an urge to be a little flippant and tell Agnes that she had a different husband for every day of the week….. but she has Agnes….
“Honey, if I die before you do, will you remarry?”“Oh no dear, absolutely not.”(oh good he/she loves me too much to even consider replacing me)“… I’ll never make that mistake again.”
