When I was a little kid my Grandpa used to take me to the dime store. Stuff really WAS five or ten cents. I got a dime to get any toy I wanted! I “shopped” for a long time! By the time I was an adult the “five and dime” sold stuff for a dollar.
We had two stores across the street from each other. One was 5 & 10. The other was 25 & 50 ( or maybe 50 & 1.00. ( I forget It has been about 70 years).. Same company.
I remember the 5 to 10 cent store. THE store to get ALL your school supplies on the same day as everyone else in your elementary school. All at the same time. afterwards, mom would treat me to a sit down lunch at the lunch counter. Glow in the Dark markers? Won’t Agnes have to shut all the lights off in school for her art work to be truly appreciated.?

First we had the 5 and 10 cent store….(though we all knew it was really a dime store, and many things cost much more.)
Then we had the dollar store, where everything was a dollar.
Now we have some dollar stores selling $2 items…
What’s next….. the $5 store?
Where will Grandma and I shop??

This is hitting WAY too close to home: keeping my lip zipped.

There is the “Dollar Tree” which sells everything in the store for one dollar. Some fairly good deals.

What’s going on with GOCOMICS? This comic strip is also from February, 2009. You can read today’s Agnes strip here:

Am I the only one whose local paper (The Roanoke Times) is running a different series of Agnes strips this week (i.e., still on the dead spiders)?
