Hey, Common Core math kinda works that way already.

Which, when properly used, as a teaching tool, not a solution, can actually be a good thing…. as long as you finally DO end up at that dreaded “correct” answer.

Considering I have dyscalculia this sounds pretty good to me. I’ve been known to hand my checkbook to somebody else and ask them how much money I have.

I’m all for counting on your fingers! I always swore I couldn’t do math. Failed math in school. One day, at the store I was buying food, my son, the math wiz asked me what I was doing. I said figuring out the calories in a serving. He asked for a demonstration. Which I happily gave him. Then he asked me to explain how much money I’d spent on groceries so far (in the cart) no prob! I told him! He looked at me and gave me a math problem. My brain scrambled like eggs dropped on a cement floor. He said, “You CAN do math…you just THINK you can’t. When you apply it to what’s important to you, you are very good at math!” OK….that was a bit of a shocker.
