My very best friend during childhood had to get her tonsils removed. She got all the ice cream she could eat (hardly any) which would have normally been a fantastic treat (her family really was Agnes level poor). I distinctly remember her slap telling me it wasn’t worth it.

Aaah, yes! Recovering from my tonsillectomy. When they thought it was OK they gave me some ice cream…which I promptly threw up.
