Back when I was 12 or so we found some bushes with small blue berries. Don’t know what they were, but we ate them as long as the bushes were bearing. It was along the road to the swimming hole. an old sand/gravel pit. they were pretty sour as I remember. No one got sick, but we only ate a few every time we passed.
