Groups of our family drifted southward from their original homes in southeast PA along the “wagon road” that paralleled the Appalachians, eventually ending up in what is now North Carolina. And from there, they drifted at various times westward. We ended up with the (not unusual) case of PA “Dutch” families being spread all over, not only in PA but in the Old South as well.
