After watching a video on the subject, I told a mechanic friend of mine I now know how to change brakes. I asked him to come by and watch my first time through. I had a hard time getting the lug nuts loose, he told me to put my weight behind it, and did a demo on one. I tried it and it worked. His reply to me…_I bet they didn’t show you that in the video, did they?"
I never have changed brakes. But changing from regular to snow ties and back was a twice-annual ritual. Those were the days of rear-wheel drive cars. So I had an extra set of wheels with snow tires mounted. Then came “all weather” tires — different tread and different rubber. And the ritual sort of disappeared. Around here, I haven’t seen a “snow tire” for ages.
I’ve had a few cars with performance (3 season) tires mounted on aluminum wheels, with a set of winter tires mounted on the steel factory wheels. Only snapped off one stud. Fortunately there was a dealer just down the road that was open until 10 PM – happened after work (9 PM closing shift, changed the tires in the parking lot with good lighting.)

I’ve learned many new words trying to loosen over tightened lug nuts and oil filters.

It was probably one of those mid-60’s Chryslers with the reversed thread.

Maybe you should make a sandwich for Grandma while you are at it Agnes. Your Poor granny works SO hard!

She sounds like my grandmother. She was a bootlegger during Prohibition.

Don’t try to assist her; you might learn something, Agnes.

My dad had a tire shop where I worked for many years
I liked tires, if you had a flat tire I was your guy, didn’t like mechanical
Never once did a brake job that I didn’t ask someone to check my work, sometimes more than once

Not a big fan of car grease on my sandwich. I’d just make it myself too….

Make your own. That will be interesting. Agnes is unconventional to the max.
