Your head can come to terms with it so much more easily than the heart. No matter how many years pass, the loss of some of our 4- legged best friends still hurts like it was recent. Thank you for sharing Ninja’s story again, it was my first time reading it and it made me think of my best buddy Pete.
A word from the veterinarian’s point of view, although I don’t know if I should. When people bring in their pets for that last time, there are those who hurt so much they can barely stand it and those who act very brave and accepting and are hurting so much inside that they can barely stand it. And as the vet you have to be perfectly brave and calm, trying to make this easier for them when there is nothing you hate more with the feeling like you’re breaking their hearts. We often go to the owner’s home, for people who want their pet to pass away at home of just can’t face bringing their pet in themselves.
And for the record, after the second time I poked myself with a tranquilizer dart and the second time I gave myself insulin in the mouth trying to pull the cap from the syringe with my teeth, I was no longer allowed to handle the serious drugs for my own protection!
Awwww, Amanda, hugs. This is the first time i’ve read your story about Ninja but not the first time i’ve lived it and I still miss every one of them. 8-(
Who know, maybe if we’re lucky, we’ll be able to see Ninja from time to time peaking out from behind a curtain or in one of your dreams about SuperNinja, the cat who fights the evil rats in the sewers and the stupid dogs who live up the street.
I don’t know if you will see this Amanda, but I am truly sad for the passing of Ninja. I have lost several friends over the years, and know what you go through. Just remember that they will be waiting for you over the Rainbow Bridge. You will see them again.
And now, I must take a few moments to cry for Ninja.

If you write about life, you have to write about the ‘mopey’. A carnival lifestyle should be interesting.
