My Tiny Lady Veterinarian is sometimes asked if she can give something to help an upset pet. She prefers not to, since animals can react very unpredictably to medications, even those they have had before with no problem. What pets need most is therapy, meaning extra attention.
Of course, pets react very differently. We had a pair of dachshunds when I was young, George and William. When Willie passed away suddenly, George’s only acknowledgment was to immediately confiscate his favorite toy. ‘To remember him by, I suppose.’
My kids have inherited my odd talent in naming pets. Our housefoxes are Jessica Greyfox, Melody Blackfox and Misty Greyfox. Melody Blackfox is also my sister’s name, so we did get into some trouble for that.
Went to dinner with my daughter last night. When she got home, she found her dog, Buck, dead. Her best friend for over 15 years. Her other dog, Minnie, is going to be going through this sadness.

It’s as hard on the animals as it is on us.
