Lilacs are an integral part of American history. At the time of the Mexican War 1845-1848 there was a popular song among the American soldiers “Green Grow the Lilacs of Virginia”. The Mexicans heard the invaders singing this and started calling them “Gringos.”
My yard is full of what ever the birds poop seeds. It is like living in twilight in the back yard, and it is 10 degrees cooler out there then at the street out front. A mere 35 feet away. City living at its finest. And there is none of that invasive grass to be found anywhere. I haven’t used my lawnmower in 12 years.

The weeds are specifically designed to move into difficult soil conditions and soften it up for other plants to come later. They are the pioneers!

Weeds or desirable native plants designed to flourish in ND? Plus probably drought resistant too

if anything can grow under 120F here, then sure you can grow whatever you want there – you just need the right genetics shrug

I’m going to plant lilacs in my front yard this fall. I’ve always wanted some, and now for the first time I have a yard for them!

I grew wildflowers at my previous apartment. Too many rocks to grow much here.
