There is ZERO point to scolding a cat longer than five seconds after it has done something you dislike. Cats are extremely “real-time”. I have seen people lecturing cats. I’ve seen some dumb people.
If you leave the table because you’re done eating and don’t take your plate with you and dispose of any leftovers, in my book it’s fair game for any cat.
Now if Amanda was still at the table, then she would have the authority to refuse the cat of it’s prey. That’s the rules in my house anyway. One of my cats loves to join me for coffee time in the AM. He loves licking the inside of my cup on my desk after I’ve had a few sips. I think it’s the milk I use in it or something. Probably shouldn’t let him but it’s to darn cute :-)
I had a roommate whose male friend climbed in her window after I banned him from the house. He was irate because my Chumsey, a Maincoon, stole the meat from his sandwich. I laughed heartily!

One must always be firm and consistent in disciplining a cat.
Unless they are just Too Darn Cute.

If you walked away and left a pizza crust, it’s considered fair game. Cuteness rules.

A mighty huntress is our cat.

This begs the question, why were there pizza crusts left over? That is the best part — fully equal to the cheese and sour tomato sauce.

Cats will rule you, if your discipline is sporadic. (Maybe even if it isn’t.)

Of course, cats are just small lions after all. Would you deny a lion your crust even if you told it to not eat it? I doubt it.
