Beige is brown washed out practically to invisibility. Greige is even worse because grey is a lack of color to begin with. I am soooooooo glad that the trend for decorating in grey is, appropriately, fading out. Of course I live surrounded by woods and prairie in a home made of logs and decorated in saturated warm colors, so I am part of the Color in Decorating Party anyway. IMHO the worst crime against Color is beige/greige nursery decor; children need the stimulation of a multi color, multi texture environment.
Amanda, throw on a pile of bright colored pillows and snuggly afghans to solve the sad beige couch problem.
It used to be marketed as an ‘Earth Tone’. Strangely enough often paired with orange, or forbid, yellow. An era I refer to as our ‘Faux Frontier’ period.
Beige isn’t brown — it’s even less exciting than brown.
One of my favorite gags ever was in a comic called “On the Fastrack”(is that still around?). The lead character was a super-boring guy named Bob Shirt. Occasionally he would wear a T-shirt that said “Beige University” — it’s not even colorful enough to be Brown.

I’m wondering where they found a comfortable sofa.

Not a fan of beige, but brown? Yeah baby! It’s like chocolate, and trees, and all sort of cozy things.
