    When you’re stopping the other guy, it’s checks and balances. When he does it to you, it’s gridlock.

    Checks and balances is what causes gridlock.

    Gridlock happens because the government is only doing HALF of the process. They’ve got the checks and balances process figured out in the sense of using it to stop each other from doing stuff they don’t like, but then they forget they’re supposed to then work to compromise and find a middle ground…rather than sit around and telling each other “no, you can’t do that” and end up getting absolutely nothing done.
