We used to have idiom Monday’s in high school spanish class. If possible, the teacher would try to figure out an equivalent english idiom. We spent more time arguing over the meaning of the english phrases than the spanish ones, of course doing so in broken spanish.

That’s more in the direction of a euphemism… with a dash of exasperation.
