That’s yer funniest yet! Good thing i ‘get’ you, at least. We should drop this tawdry Crew; They’re beneath Us; head south [i hear Nellcôte is available][not scared of grievous Angel Ghosts, are you?] and start our own Comic, replete with Sycophants of our choosing. And it will be brilliant and relevant. How couldn’t It?!?
I know it’s and old joke about the mother-in-law thing. I have to say that I have a decent relationship with mine. It’s not perfect mind you, but it’s way better than the horror stories I’ve heard. She lives with us and since my back surgery, she has been great. There were times when I couldn’t/wouldn’t get up and get going. She not only helped but encouraged me. Even at her age she would do things I couldn’t without complaint. I am grateful formy MIL and think of her as an angel, most days. My 2 cents.
I absolutely hated Mr. Bean, when it comes to silent comedy, Atkinson couldn’t even hold up Larry Semon’s* bowler hat, never mind the Big 3: Chaplin, Keaton & Lloyd; on the other hand, I thought “Blackadder” was brilliant, especially the episodes set in Elizabethan times (The portrayal of the great Queen as a spoiled brat was priceless)^*Larry Semon was a minor silent film comic who is best known today for his comedy spoof of the Wizard of Oz that featured Oliver Hardy, as the Tinman (1925)
For some reason, I have two songs on my mind today. Lemon Tree by Trini Lopez and Mother in Law by Ernie K. Doe. I chose MIL>http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcFkUHvlf5A
My MIL was a good woman all in all, but a horrible mother. I wouldnt even let her baby sit her grandson for any length of time. I hope Mike and Alice dont have too many quarrels over this “extended visit”.
My apologies that this post from our Ghost with the Most is late. This was to have been posted yesterday.
Taz, baby !!
Welcome to the perennially “tanked” crew of Capp. You will be treated with comedy, nonsense, Andy Capp Classic reprints, Pogo reprints, neat links, silliness and real world triumphs and tragedies of the Hartlepool residents [that’s us]. ..Oh, and some talk about the strip and how many feel it doesn’t measure up to its original splendor..You’re welcome, Number Three !It would be a pretty sizable list and I think some of the stuff might “cross borders”, but some that I can recall: Frank Sinatra (the king)Ella Fitzgerald, Lena Horne, Julio Iglesius, Tony Bennet, Dean Martin, Barbara Streisand, Judy Garland (big fave), Nancy Wilson (the original black one, and not of Heart), Englebert Humperdink, Lou Rawls, Sammy Davis Jr. (way much !)…… There’s a bunch more… I would have to have the record collection in front of me…. Mom loved her tunes as I do mine. The clucking sounds like it’s worth trying. ¦– ] I will only be borrowing that book. Ken’s a big comics collector and even reads stuff on this site. Don’t know that he talks or not..
.Chawkee j bird sez:
. . is Supermax the Flo one doesn’t want to go-with? Or is that a “Postcard from the Front” ver lain’ low??
I think Flo has already had The Change, so it would be more like Donovan “looking out my window”You’ll have to get a conviction to come see me !
mi·sog·y·nist [mi-soj-uh-nist] noun a person who hates, dislikes, mistrusts, or mistreats women.
This is not “our” Number 6! He does not hate women nor would he ever mistreat a woman and really, what on earth would make you call him that??? (he isnt old or miserable either)
Your Mum has excellent musical taste! I’m familiar with a lot of those singers…Mainly because Quartermain used to post me songs on the Mutt & Jeff strip nearly every day.
Ella Fitzgerald was one of them and Dean Martin too.
I really miss WW2Marine… I found out that I was one of the few posters who he last replied to before he left us. I wasn’t the very last but at least I was ONE of them. I actually started crying when I found out but I was lucky to exchange comments with him a few times and I’ll never forget it.
I’m sorry for going on… I think I had to let it out.
I hope you have an awesome day and I hope that you and brothers Ron & Ken are OK too.
There was a time when duets were all the rage in Pop [think “You don’t Send Me Flowers”]. but harmonizing is a Country tradition that goes back to the Porch. The “big 3” were Gram and Emmylou Harris, Conway Twitty and Lorretta Lynn, and George and [here ex-] Wife Tammy Wynette. George Jones and Tammy Wynette- Golden Ring"
@Number Three She would like to have heard that and would have been glad to talk about these people at Length. By her occasional mention, I am sure she was a Rat Pack follower since it comprised people whose material she patronized. Saw Sinatra at the now defunct Melody Fair in North Tonawanda. That was a big deal for her. I was amused by your exchanges with the old soldiers at Mutt & Jeff even though I rarely talked at that strip. I’m touched by your reaction to WW2Marine guy’s passing.Talked to Ron last week and it was good. My day is going okay, hope yours is too !.Nice Blondie and Dag pose there, Linda.

The Man who thinks someone is full of “Boulderdash” says:.The Strip:
I thought today’s installment is okay. Gets the point across without filler. I wonder… after all the various takes that R.S. presented, how many fresh angles can one come up with given the context of where the characters live and “play” and beer, mainly, being a central theme of life. Not like they’re doing amphetamines, coke, weed or any other stuff. There’s only so many settings that they function in.
.After doing the last George Jones link I found a 59 minute long BBC Four documentary from 2004 on The Man in Black
