I’m an academic, so always curious about things. You asked why people “need to hide behind pseudonyms.” To me, that sounds like a “Are you still beating your wife?” question. A pseodonym is not the same as an alias, and is considered quite acceptable. Do you seriously assume anyone using a pseudonym is hiding, or just some? Why?

Is Barry Mackenzie your real name, or just part of your real name? If Barry Mackenzie is your full and legal name, then you certainly aren’t using a pseudonym. But if your full name includes more than you give here, or if Barry is your nickname, then could you answer your own question for yourself? [I’m aware that Barry is an Irish nickname, and Mackenzie is a Scottish surname – so it sounds to me like it could be a pseudonym, but it wouldn’t have to be.]

Again, this is my curiosity asking – you don’t have to feel obligated to answer, but I’d appreciate hearing your reasoning. Thanks.
