In the US, go to Mexico, or Canada, walk across the open border, tell them you are here for amnesty, and you get free everything for the rest of your life…….compliments of the taxpayers of the United States that have to work for their money, so the government can tax them and give it to other countries and illegal migrants. Is this a great country or what?
As a Union member (Teamsters!) I didn’t have to look for work while collecting unemployment benefits in Illinois. They know the Union is looking for me, or it was a temporary seasonal layoff.
In real life the Jobcentre no longer has a list of vacancies pinned up on the wall and the touchscreen terminals where one could search for jobs were taken away as well.
The Jobcentre has also got security staff on each floor due to the amount of riff raff that walks through the doors wanting to cause trouble and threaten the staff because their money was stopped.
The film “I, Daniel Blake” is a great film that portrays Britain’s benefit system and how many hoops one has to jump through to get help.

Does unemployment in the United Kingdom go on indefinitely as it seems to with Andy? Here in New York it lasts only 26 weeks.

Um, Andy? “Hardly” isn’t a synonym for “actively”, y’know? :D

Deny him and all he’ll do is filch from his Mrs.’ purse. Might as well have mercy on her and hand out the dole.

I’ve always wondered what type of work has Andy ever done, and for what sort of time period?

I believe he does attend the occasional job interview, where he ensures he won’t be hired.

Why does Andy get the dole when his wife is working?

I’ve said it before: Give Andy a job once in a while to see him screw it up!
