Don’t ask me, I’m still trying to figure out why people whose ancestors have been here 100 years longer than mine are considered “African-American” or “Asian-American”.
To me, the only “African-Americans” should be people who have immigrated within their lifetime.

Probably because others call us that. My husband is from Europe, so we travel there regularly. I always say “I’m from the U.S.” yet they usually say “Are you American?”Also, what else should we be called… “U.S.ers”? I’ve thought about it before (seriously), and I don’t know what else sounds okay. If you’re from France, you’re French, from China, Chinese, etc. so from the US should be ?? I’m open to ideas and we can start a new term here….
