I always thought it was because Julius Caesar wanted 31 days for his month and later Augustus wanted 31 days for his month and no one stood up for February. SEPT is a latin prefix for 7, but September is the 9tn month. What’s going on with this? Warning, that can be a deep rabbit hole.

365 can’t be divided evenly by 30 or 31. One month or another has to get the short end of the stick.
