Those big bucks have to rid their velvet somewhere. (My security camera captures deer and other critters crossing my driveway during the wee night hours.)

They are also there for the unaware dog to head butt. Makes a very nice thonk sound.

If whatever is scratching it can leave marks like that on a presumably metal pole, I don’t honestly believe I would stand around there, after dark.
