The dialog in this run of Annie strips is outstanding. Yet, the artwork looks like it was left unfinished. Maybe I’m just being picky, but it just looks like Kupperberg didn’t spend as much time drawing today’s strip as we’re used to.
Teh – I agree with you. And this ‘sketch’ aspect of Kupperberg’s artwork happened a bunch of times during his tenure. I don’t remember Slampyak ever doing this.
APOI – I never thought of it that way, but I guess you’re right. I don’t have enough examples of Pepoy’s work to say anything about him, but Starr and Slampyak did a much better job, I think, in portraying a young girl. Although there were times when Kupperberg did draw Annie in a bathing suit where she definitely had feminine curves to her.

Annie is always better when inked with color. I too see this as just a sketch.
