Is there mockery & dissension about Warbucks in the 4th panel?

They should have better road maintenance in New Mexico. Rte. 40 looks terrible in the first panel…

Does anyone know the whereabouts of Santiago? Haven’t seen her in the strip in a while.

I’m reading Steinbeck’s “The Grapes of Wrath” and there’s this great description he gives of the people from Oklahoma moving west along Route 66 to California during the Dustbowl Era. It shows how all these refugees from Oklahoma poured out of OK and into California and how they were abused, robbed and taken advantage of the whole way. It makes you realize just how bad we can treat each other sometimes. — It’s also interesting to think that our Little Orphan Annie was still fresh and new and still on the radio at that time. Pretty cool.

I was at Fort Irwin, CA back in the early 80’s. Deep in the Mojave desert. The sand killed our 113’s, Abrams and Bradleys. You’ll notice very little of that stuff is being used in Iraq or Afghanistan today. The equipment that is there is better designed for the climate. It still takes a beating though. — I don’t know how well the rest of us will fare in a prolonged drought. Our farmers have much better techniques for taking care of the soil and growing drought resistant varieties of plants. I think we can avoid another dust bowl, but it wouldnt be fun.
