It’s all VB’s fault!!!! i stayed up until 1:00 AM last night watching the original version of ’ The Bad Seed’ The actors were excellent, and I had forgotten just how horrid Rhoda was. My Mom had seen the movie long before I did, and told me that Rhoda took the little boy’s spelling medal, and hit him with her tap shoes. I’ve had it wrong all these years. ;-) I think that the original ending was changed to protect the audiences of the 1950s…..
Hello Marg. Yes movies were governed by the Hayes Code in those days and one provision of the code was that “Crime does not pay.” In the novel, Rhoda got away with it all, so the ending had to be adjusted to fit the requirements of the Hayes Code.
davidf42, from what I saw last night, she said she slipped and bumped into the old lady as they were going down the icy stairs, then she told her mother that she had slipped on purpose….

Ah, but’s that’s the question- who would know that, and how?
Was the lawyer with glasses about to have a conversation that he didn’t want his partner to hear?

I’m sure someone will show up, dear.

Leaky - I think Rhoda’s original answer was “I may have pushed her, a little.”

Marg - Oh, OK. I’m probably getting the dialog from the film mixed up with the novel.

margueritem said, “I’ve had it wrong all these years. ;-) I think that the original ending was changed to protect the audiences of the 1950s.”
Maybe that’s why I like the old movies. There’s not as much “reality” as in the newer ones.

R_Noonan63 I believe the title was ‘It’s a Good Life’. I read the original story.
