I was late coming to the Annie revival and Tom was already on board when I started reading this strip online (and being a boy, avoided this cootie-plagued comic as a kid).
Going by Annie’s reaction to the airship, is this his introduction into the strip?
Don’t forget his cousins, Tom Slow and Tom Tall. Not to mention Joe Mama, Jacques E. Shortz, and a whole slew of other relatives. I loved Tom Swift as a kid, and I love the “Swifties” (adverbs modifying the verb “said”) that you can find online. Apparently, Victor Appleton used those adverbs quite a bit, though I never really noticed. Annie is so much fun…I’m glad they’re replaying her adventures.

Shades of Tom Swift! It’s the boy inventor and his airship to the rescue.

G’Morning, Anniephans! Re: Arf2’s comment. I loved Tom Swift Jr. when I was a kid and I always thought that Tom Short was patterned after him
Here’s the link to Annie 2003 .
