Thank-you, Gus. We’re delighted to be here! Hello Janis, Arlo, congratulations! We are so very happy for you all!You deserve to be very proud! To Gene and Mary Lou, Long live your sweet love affair!
so i guess we missed the wedding and get to only see the reception.wonder who would have been Gene’s best man or Mary Lou’s maid of honor. neither seems to have any friends. Mary Lou had a big sister in the strip but i think JJ killed her off. wonder who all those other people are? seems like Gene’s side of family and friends would be tiny but then am not sure if he has grandparents, aunts, uncles and the rest.
Okay, just throwing this out here: If Janis & Arlo came under the pretense of a “Graduation Party” for Gene, it would make sense that Gene’s whole side of the family would be invited for the same “event”. Everyone one would be surprised about a secret wedding but everyone would be there.
I am so happy for Gene, been a part of his life since he was a baby and to see him grow up and land the hot girl is so gratifying. I wish Gus would re-run some of the old strips like when he first met her.
To Gene and Mary Lou – May you live as long as you wish and love as long as you live. (Lazarus Long, aka Woodrow Wilson Smith aka “The Senior”; Robert A Heinlein – RIP),
@Jim Bedsole, I’ve actually eaten at ‘The Dock’…..When I lived in North Charleston, I went up there severaltimes. Good catfish, definitely. This would have beenin 1984, or so…..Best wishes to Gene and Mary Lou! (&Meg, & relatives)Thanks, JJ
This is from my husband, ol’ Frugal Fart… For a wedding present, he’s picturing Arlo giving Gene his own leaf blower, and telling him how, and when and where, to use it.
So, let me get this straight… Gene and Mary Lou get married and both do not have any legitimate educational background to get going on… Two waiter’s/waitresses’ wages or salaries means tough living for these, and that’s not including the little girl! Ugh… I’m assuming Mr. Johnson is going to have the old man give the business to Gene. Also, is anyone going to comment on how Mary Lou accidentaly slipped, when telling Janis about the wedding plans? I’m wondering if Mr. Johnson is putting Gene over his head…

My aunt and uncle built a seafood restaurant in Moncks Corner, SC called The Dock restaurant. Best fried catfish in the world.

Kind of anticlimatic after the build-up.

Gene and Mary Lou are socializing with each other! Not very sociable to their guests, but I guess we can’t blame them.
(Even Janis is happy!)

Something does not seem right. Look at the expression on the brides face. This marriage is not going to end well.
