@beviekI do not know, I have seen her wear reading glasses before while reading on the couch, so I think it is a something else.

She can’t read it on the phone, so she has to go to a bigger screen. I’ve had to do that, and go to either my iPad or my computer. My eyes never were what they should have been. I can’t imagine watching TV or movies on the iphone, although I have watched baseball and football, due to no other options.

She is ashamed to be caught using a dinosaur computer instead of a hip and trendy smartphone. I have friends like that (sigh).

It’s the fact that your eyes get worse as you get older. That’s why the grampa box is still so popular among, well, grampas.

Lens replacement surgery only replaces one’s clouded-over natural lenses with clear plastic ones. It doesn’t restore the ability to adjust for distance, which only the natural lenses of persons younger than in their 40’s and 50’s can do. So there’s no getting around the need for reading classes, bi-focals, or tri-focals in later life. Swallow your vanity and get used to it.

Additional things like post-production color should be unobtrusive. No colors would be far superior to wrong colors. I’m waiting for an artist to do something like have his characters identify wildly different colors for a flower, and see what the colorist does.

I still go with BEVIEK’s explanation of the strip. I bought a new ‘smart phone’ and for all the aggravation, I shoulda got me a smart TABLET !!

This isn’t about vision. She has been touting the superiority of her smartphone, and does not want to admit she needs the computer.

In my early 40s I had 20/15 and 20/17 vision. Can’t afford glasses, so never went to a doctor. But now I need 250 reading glasses for close up work, 200 for general purposes, and 150 – 175 for (limited) distance. I’m only 57.

LOL. Anyone who can’t see the classic signs is definitely not over 40. It’s eyesight and growing older. I go through it everyday. I would swear they were making text smaller, if I didn’t know better.

Yes, diminished vision is the cause of her needing a larger screen, but the “punch line” is that she does not want to admit that she needs the computer instead of her smartphone. She has consistently touted to Arlo the phone’s advantages. She cannot afford for him to catch her in her dependence on the larger computer screen. It’s not her eyesight that she is embarrassed about.
