My sister and I would have contests to see how long the cat and the cockatiel would keep yawning as we yawned at them. The cat would last for about three, but the bird won/lost at fifteen straight one time.
This strip still has its moments, when I can understand it, which is maybe 60% of the time. Time to bring back Gene and family to liven up a slow time.
I knew that this segment would bring out the “that’s so lame!” comments. “Arlo and Janis” is very subtle, even minimalist, which is part of its appeal to me. (I often don’t understand it, either, and look forward to exigeses.) There are plenty of obvious comics if I care to focus on them.
Thing is, I think you’re all going nostolgic and only rememebring the action comics of A&J. Go back and read 10 years ago and they had tons of stips about odering pizza, or breaking the 4th wall or jokes about not making jokes.
I took it as being about wearing down and losing one’s focus. Maybe on reflection also about the line between two members of a long-time couple blurring. Very cute.
I’ve read A&J since 1986. The consistent level of quality has been remarkable.

And if it had occurred in an airport, it probably would have made it around the world…

i agree with je40 and doublepaw that the strip is in danger of needing a handicap sticker because it’s gotten so lame. bring back Gene, ML and Shrimp!

Janis’s response should’ve been “What’s that got to do with it?”
