There be bugs in that thar wood!

And that’s why you shouldn’t store wood in the house!

Careful with that aerosol can.

I’ve got four cord of wood in the basement. Two cord left over from last year as it wasn’t as cold as previous years. I’d rather have too much than not enough….especially when it gets down for forty below.

In the lower 48 it’s never a good idea to store wood in or against your house. A&J living in the southernmost climes makes them susceptible to buggy firewood.

Here in the Southwest we also have scorpions that like to live under the bark. They’re fast and tiny and really STING!

Beware the bugs that come in bags of wild bird seed. ….feed the birds outside and get bugs inside….

Here in the Pacific Northwest we cut wood at least a year ahead. It takes fir that long to dry properly. No bug problems in firewood here, but we use a wood stove, not an inefficient fireplace.

Only hardwood dry seasoned a year, minimum, makes a REAL fire

i Don’t bring it inside until it’s ready to go DIRECTLY into the fire.. we get carpenter ants and mason bees along with some kind of borers in the woodpile. If it’s been a bad bug year it only goes into the outdoor firepit.
