I live in England. We don’t do Thanksgiving here, obviously. But for the last few years we’ve been getting Black Friday sales. A cynical person might think it was all a marketing exercise.Enjoy your day of rest, Arlo!
What with all the “Pre-Black Friday” sales, Black Friday is not what it once was. The stores, including phone stores, are not significantly different from what they always are. The local Apple Store has lots of demo computers, loaded with games. Parents can dump their kids there, tell them to stay and shop. Very successful marketing technique. The store is always packed solid with kids.
At 65, I always ask myself two questions: “Do I really need that Black Friday sale item.” “Do I have a place to put it?” 99.99% of the time, both answers are NO.
@DAVID_42 That’s how I squelch most large purchases by my wife. I ask her “Where are you going to put it?” She usually doesn’t have a place and is unwilling to get rid of something for it to fit.
Ironically, when I was young Thanksgiving Friday was a good day for a college student to slip out and get Xmas shopping done before finals, because the stores were EMPTY!
Personally, I would rather relax the day after Thanksgiving. Going shopping the following day is just too exhausting and I don’t like crowds when I shop. I try to shop when I know there aren’t going to be a lot of people just so I don’t have to try to side step them as I go through the aisles. I think all the stores should be closed for those two days.
I don’t do Black Friday. I do have the day off so spend it putting up the tree and decorating the house. This year I got the inside all done, but didn’t get to the outside. Will do that tomorrow when it’s supposed to be a bit warmer. Every Saturday and Sunday in December is scheduled for baking.
Or a restaurant. We close every Sunday, but the only holidays we are closed on are Thanksgiving and Christmas. Black Friday can be so busy with people getting together to eat.

With some of the videos I’ve seen online it seems more like Black Eye Friday.

Oh, I love this!
Turn about is fair play.
Usually, we’re the ones saying that J.J. must be peeking in our windows! Welcome to our world, Arlo!
Well played, Jimmy!

There’s more to life than having the new phone all the time,, like a motgage or car payment.

I worked in retail for more than 20 years. I now take great pleasure in never going out on Black Friday.

Haven’t been in a store on Black Friday since I worked retail. That would be 1984.
