Every time I hear the words, “I’m not a prude, but..”
(even, or maybe especially, if it is me saying it)
the response that jumps to my mind is,
“But you are , Blanche! You are a prude!”
.
(Please don’t get me wrong, I’m not in favor of excessive foul language, or gratuitous nudity in films. It’s just that, that phrase brings out the Bette in me!)
Every time I hear the words, “I’m not a prude, but..” I wonder is what is so wrong with being a prude? Just because a majority of the population has slidden down the slippery slope of profane, pornographic, immoral, narcissistic, selfish and all around boorish, uncouth behavior, why do those of us who prefer a kinder, gentler, self-restrained, polite, moral society feel like we have to apologize for it? I don’t want to go back to the days where we were ashamed to explain where babies come from to older children, but having six year olds directing porn movies (a little hyperbole) has gone a bit too far IMHO. Are we really better people now that we live in highly sexualized and profane society? If that make me a prude then I am proud to be one.

Some people don’t use words they aren’t smart enough to spell, so they are limited to four letters.

And you read every one of them. In the “old days” we had to manually underline the “good” parts. In the digital age they find them for you.
