Grocery stores count on us being too stupid to know when we’ve been fooled by their pricing methods. Those who excelled in math in grade 5 should be able to figure them out.
Coupons used to be for things you actually needed and wanted, now they all seem to be for things manufacturers think you should try. And, they aren’t enough money-off to be worth it! Plus, what they want you to try is just “edible garbage” for the most part!!!
My big beef is packages that get subtilty smaller at the same price. EXAMPLE: I buy “large” bags (30 pound) of dry dog food. The bag size has not changed, but now the bags contain 28 pounds.
We still get flyers every Thursday or online Wednesday night and I can check for deals that way but only for those things we use. Few extras. the good news in our small city I can go from store to store once a week and save a great deal of money.
Sometimes this can go a bit far. We’ve been married eight years are are still on the first of two bottles of liquid hand soap. Which my wife brought into the marriage!
Twice a month, Thurs-Sat, our store give you a coupon for the gas station around the corner for 50 cents off a gallon IF you buy $75 of groceries. I take my calculator and only buy things on my grocery list and only if they’re on sale or a decent price. There can be no stick of gum at the end to complete the $75 but an extra yogurt is okay. Groceries get a little lean around here by the second Wednesday! With the tractor, mowers, and cars, it really helps. The rest of the time it’s 5 cents off for $50 but you can add them all together to get a larger total.
My first job was as farm hand for my Scoutmaster, but he soon moved me over to his grocery store, where I bagged & carried out (everyone’s stuff, to tell how long ago this was), and stocked shelves, stamping things with a price stamper. One price I recall in particular was cans of corn “on sale” at 4/$1. Regular price was 22¢ each……..
I don’t use coupons or the the stores loyalty cards, normally the stores let you type in your phone number if you use tommy two tone’s:Eight six seven five three oh nine from jenny i got your number, it works 95% of the time. btw use you own area code

Many stores will half the two-for price if you buy only one. Ask!

Coupons can be troublesome. I had one for a jar of mustard once, but I forgot it so when I went to check out I was told “No coupon no Poupon”…
